Passion and Creativity
“1881” is a solo guitar concert which reflects the musical panorama of the 19th century and the start of the 20th century. That period represents the consolidation of the ideas that would later form the basis of the “new musical scene”, and which today forms the basis of what we call “classical music”.
This new project is the portrayal of the way concerts were understood at that stage in music history but presented in a modern context. The repertoire offers standard classical pieces, together with original compositions by Pablo Romero Luis and works taken from flamenco guitar repertoire. The program is reminiscent of the end of the nineteenth century but with pieces spanning three centuries.
The title of the project pays homage to Julian Arcas, one of the
old masters, most admired by Romero Luis. Arcas was the most important pedagogue of Spain’s first school of romantic guitar music and is considered one for the “fathers” of flamenco guitar. His last concerts were given in the year 1881.
